Kyven Gadson will continue to wrestle

Former ISU wrestler Kyven Gadson was laying flat on his back, staring into the Carver-Hawkeye Arena lights, fighting to get his shoulder blades off of the mat.

He was pinned by Micah Burak at the Olympic Wrestling Trials at Iowa City on April 10.

That was the last match Gadson wrestled in. Now he will be competing for another Olympic cycle at 97 kilograms (213 pounds). He wants to achieve his dream of becoming an Olympic Gold medalist.

“I think I already knew I wanted to compete again,” Gadson said. “But those results set it in effect for me. [I thought], ‘Ok, you have more to do because that wasn’t a clear indicator of who you are as a competitor, or who you can be those last few matches that I had on April 10.”

Gadson began that day winning his first match against Kallen Kleinschmidt 3-2.
